Hi friends! How are you guys?? Gosh, it’s been literal AGES since I was on here last. Summer came and I just lost all track of time, but now I’m back in school, so I should be more consistent posting on here.
Buttttt, enough about me. Today we have a very special guest answering some questions that I posted in May. You guessed it – Ann! Ann is the main character of my duology, The Hollow and The Cove. Her first book, In Wildcat Hollow, was published almost 9 months ago (how is that even possible??) and her second book, In Bickle’s Cove, is on the way! Hopefully, it will be published in December.
Anyway, I’ll stop talking now so we can begin the interview!
What was your childhood nickname? Why were you called this?
My childhood nickname – and present nickname – is Ann. My real name is Mollyann, but with 16 siblings, you get used to people shortening your name for ease.
Do you believe in true love?
I do, but I don’t believe in instant love. People can’t fall in love just by looking at each other, that’s just silly nonsense.
What is on your nightstand right now?
If by nightstand you mean kitchen table (because I only own one of those) there is a vase of wildflowers and a dirty dish that someone didn’t clean up last night. *points to her younger brother, Leon, who smiles sheepishly*
Who is the person that you respect the most and why?
Definitely my mother. She deals with so much from all of us every day, yet she’s the sweetest person I know.
What is your most treasured memory? Why?
One of my most treasured memories is when my siblings and I helped put on a Christmas pageant at our church.
Are you generally a messy or organized person?
I would like to say that I’m a generally organized person, but Bessie and Neena would call me a liar. So I guess I’m generally more messy.
If you had a YouTube channel, what would it be called and what would you make videos about?
What is a YouTube?
What does the perfect life look like to you?
The perfect life is me, married, with children, and working somewhere I enjoy.
Are you right or left-handed?
Right handed.
If you could go back in time to one day, what day would it be and why?
I would go back in time to the day Mama and Dad got married. That was a really fun day; there was lots of cake and dancing. And then we got to spend the week with Grandmother and Grandfather Bates!
What is your biggest pet peeve?
I hate when people interrupt me! It’s like they’re subtly telling me that my opinion doesn’t matter, and that gets on my nerves so much!
What is one strong memory that has stuck with you since childhood?
Well, I’m not finished with my childhood yet, but as of right now, the strongest memory I have is when Mama and Dad told us they were getting married. I can recall how the room smelled, everyone’s reactions, everything!
Where would you like to live?
Anywhere besides Bickle’s Cove. The Ozarks are pretty, but this town is just too small for me.
What is your greatest fear?
My biggest fear is probably passing through life without giving it any purpose. That and heights.
Do you have any pets?
We have one dog, Charlie, and one bunny, Willow. And a milk cow, chickens, hogs, goats, and other farm animals.
If you could cure one disease, which one would it be?
The one my Daddy died from. I can’t remember what my Mama called it, but he was in a lot of pain. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
If you had Instagram, what would your username be?
What’s an Instagram?
Who is your best friend?
Definitely my neighbor, Jo. And her sister Margie.
What is the one thing you’d like to be remembered for after you die?
I’d like to be remembered as someone who was a very loving and thoughtful person.
What three words best describes your personality?
Fiery, dedicated, loyal.
What is your motto in life?
I’ve … never thought of this before. I don’t think I ever assigned a motto to live by. I’m not sure I could even think of one that I’d want to live by.
If you could travel anywhere in the world for a vacation, where would you go?
I’d go to Australia because it’s so mysterious. What even happens over there?
What is your most treasured item?
Definitely one of my books, but I’m just not sure which one.
Did you enjoy school? Why or why not?
I enjoy school when I can understand it.
What is your middle name? Do you like it? Why or why not?
My middle name is Edith, and I like it. I think its very pretty.
Do you prefer the vanilla or cinnamon scent?
Vanilla. It’s just so calming and peaceful.
What is your deepest social insecurity?
I sometimes have trouble trusting people enough to be personal with them. I don’t want them to think bad things of me.
What is something you want to accomplish in your lifetime?
I want to accomplish something that women don’t normally accomplish. I want to be able to surprise people when I accomplish it. I’m not sure exactly what that is yet. I’ll have to keep thinking on it.
Do you have any bad habits you’re trying to break?
I need to stop biting my nails when I’m thinking.
If you died tomorrow, what is something you would regret not doing?
I would regret not being able to grow up and help people when I’m older.
Thank you so much, Ann, for coming by to do this interview! I hope you guys enjoyed it; I enjoyed it! It’s amazing how these characters just take on their own personality so quickly! It’s one of my favorite things about writing.
Have you used any of these questions to get to know your characters better? Will you try it?
